Speak on the ACT-W+ Platform

Boost your brand and give back to the greater tech community by sharing your skills and expertise with our diverse community!

Speaking within the ACT-W+ platform is a great opportunity to work together to empower female, non-binary, and transgender individuals in STEM. Our speakers are able to:

  • Connect with the community. ChickTech is comprised of members across the country in technical and non-technical roles. This is a great opportunity to build your network, get your brand out there, and/or share your business to a diverse audience.
  • Connect with companies. ChickTech events are supported by community and local businesses. We make our corporate sponsors visible to nonprofits, educational institutions, other companies, and potential clients.
  • Access diverse talent. Our community has shown that they are passionate, dedicated people who know their stuff.
  • Be a change agent. More than anything, you are taking a proactive role in helping shift tech culture toward one that is welcoming to all.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of speaking engagement can I do? What are the benefits of each? Do you provide training?

As a speaker, you can choose between doing a live webinar or producing a pre-recorded video. Live webinars give you the opportunity to connect with attendees in real time, answer questions that may come up, or provide space for discussions. These will be recorded and stored in the library for future viewings. Pre-recorded videos can be made on your time, whenever and however it is convenient for you. These can be accessed by the community through the online library. ChickTech is working towards creating training how-to’s for each of these but in the meantime, we will provide tools and guidance for each! Additionally, a staff member will be present for all live trainings to help navigate and operate logistics in real time.

Will the webinar be repeated? Can viewers watch it at a later time?

Yes! Current members will be able to view the webinar and ask questions (if applicable) during the live session. The webinar will also be recorded for future members and current members who aren’t able to attend at the scheduled time and can be found in the members-only Content Library.

Who is in the ChickTech community? Who will be in the audience?

The ChickTech community is comprised of students and professionals of all genders, ages, and technical skill-sets. Our programs focus on the needs of female-identifying and non-binary individuals, but we welcome allies of all genders into our community as we fight to create more opportunities and empowerment in the technology industry.

Will viewers be able to ask live questions during the talk?

This is up to you as the guest speaker. There are a few different options that you can select from. If you decide to have a formal Q&A portion, the audience can address their questions at that time. If not, you can take questions as you go through the chat feature. They can be addressed at the end, or if the audience is small, you may also opt to take questions verbally throughout your talk.

Will I need to share my slides with the audience?

This is up to you. If you choose to share a presentation throughout your talk, your slides will be recorded. If you’re willing to provide your slides as a separate document for future review for participants to download, that is more than welcome!

How do I know what day and time I’ll be speaking?

We will have selected days and times for you to choose from if you would like to do a live webinar. If there are no available dates that work, we will ensure that a suitable date for all is found. We work towards giving at least a month notice for our community members to attend live webinars. If you would like to include a recording of a talk or discussion that can be posted onto our platform at any time.

Can I do a practice run?

Yes you may! Once a date and time is selected, a link for the meeting will be made. From there, we will share the link with you. You are free to test it and do a practice run at any time prior to the scheduled meeting.

What software/equipment will I need?

You will need a device that can download the Zoom Video Conferencing app or access Zoom online. This will require internet access, speakers, and a mic. We recommend a laptop/desktop or tablet. A smart phone will also work, but the screen sharing feature (to share presentation slides) will not be available.

Why do you want me to speak?

If we asked you to speak, it’s because we’ve heard you speak or you’ve been recommended to us! We look for speakers who cover topics that we’ve heard from our community are needed to help them thrive in the technology industry.

What topic should I speak on?

This is up to you. We would like you to speak on a topic that you feel you are an expert on. This topic could include insight on DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) in the workplace, leadership, career development, or a technical workshop. If you have any other ideas, we would be more than happy to hear them!
